• Nazca lines by Lydia Courteille

Could you have thought that Lydia Courteille is the designer behind this collection, largely inspired by one of the greatest mysteries of the universe: The Nazca Lines? Indeed, these pieces stand out in the world of Lydia Courteille. And yet, Lydia, who likes to get ahead of fashion and offer avant-garde collections, followed the same creative process as for all her other collections. A trip to Peru a few years ago was the source of inspiration for her new collection. This time, riding on the minimalist trend of recent months, Lydia offers a selection of more accessible pieces of jewellery, which nevertheless remains unique pieces of high jewellery, in 18 carat yellow gold, diamonds and topaz.
In the 1940s, aviators discovered these drawings only visible from the sky in the Nazca Desert in Peru.
But what do these traces, these animals, this man we call “the astronaut”, these straight lines and spirals represent which extend over nearly 500km2?

According to the most favoured theory, these lines were traced by the Nazca Indians, around the 2nd century before Christ and it would represent “the largest astronomy book in the world” (Paul Kosok – 1939). Another theory assumes these are sacred lines for communicating with and invoking the gods. Finally, the most popular theory maintains these signs prove the existence of extraterrestrials who came to Earth to leave us a message. The doubt persists. The mystery that surrounds them, as well as the undeniable creative character of these signs left by man, naturally fascinated Lydia and gave her the idea for this atypical collection. The bestiary in particular, of animals strangely resembling those we know today or even pre-historic or even fantastical animals, inspired most of the pieces in this collection.
